Agapito Labios was born in Hidalgo, Mexico in 1898. He was imprisoned during the Mexican Revolution. The story is that while in prison he painted on the cell wall. A warden saw his artwork and asked him to paint a portrait of his children. And that is how his artistic career began. Labios was self taught and made his living doing portraits. He sold in the Lagunilla Market and later had a shop in Mexico City.
