Gilbert Lujan was born near French Camp, California, a migrant farm workers' village, and later moved to East Los Angeles, where he painting murals in the early 1970s. In 1973, he joined with Frank Romero, Carlos Almaraz, and Roberto de la Rocha to form Los Four. Los Four collaborated on numerous murals and other public art installations and had a significant influence in defining Chicano art in California. Lujan has exhibited his paintings and sculptures in numerous solo and group shows in the United States and abroad.
